The Person at the Centre

Every safeguarding concern involves a real person. This module refocuses your practice on the individual — their voice, their experience, their rights, their dignity.

Learning Objectives

  • Apply Making Safeguarding Personal principles in practice
  • Understand the importance of the individual’s voice in every safeguarding decision
  • Challenge practices that prioritise organisational convenience over individual wellbeing
  • Recognise when “person-centred” language masks system-centred practice

Making Safeguarding Personal

MSP is not a tick-box. It means genuinely asking the person what they want to happen — and then acting on it. It means their desired outcome shapes the response, not the organisation’s desired outcome.

“If we can’t explain our safeguarding approach to the person it’s meant to protect — in language they understand — then we haven’t got one.”
